Calculate your Brands True Value: From Perception to Profit
In this video I will try to explain why all established businesses both large and small should calculate the value of their brand and then capture it as a line item on their balance sheet. The intention is to calculate the loyalty of your customer base and express it as a value in the financial statements.
The are two good reasons for this, the first is that it allows you to track the growth or decline of your brand value which in turn will help you to determine if your marketing is effective or not.
The second reason is that if you intend to sell your business you can justify a higher price as the purchaser will be required to spend less money to keep the business profitable due to the loyal customer base which supports the brand.
So how do you go about determining the value of your brand? Before the 1950’s no company placed any value on brands. However, as the marketplace became more competitive, brands began to become the differentiating factor between similar products or services. The importance of brands and brand valuation has just continued to grow since then.
Today there are three main methods of valuating your brand, the first is the market-based valuation method which compares your brand to similar brands in the market that have recently been sold. This method can be restrictive as there may not be a lot of comparable data.
The second method is the cost-based technique which calculates the brand value by adding up all of the historical costs incurred to create the brand including advertising and promotions. This method is useful for new brands.
The third method is the income-based method which takes the brands current earnings and projects that 10 years into the future and then discounts that value back to the present day. This method is good for established business.
Each method has its pros and cons as can be seen from this table. In addition, there is a certain amount of subjectivity and estimation so the valuations could vary wildly. For this reason, it may be a good idea to use more than one method. My advice is to select a method that can be justified and remain consistent in the long-term to ensure comparability as this will help with sound data driven choices.
Let’s consider SwiftReg as an example. Utilizing Google Analytics, we compare the number of searches containing 'SwiftReg' with generic searches. This data provides a ratio which we can use against total online sales, enabling us to calculate the current online brand-related revenue. When combined with revenue from walk-in clients, this figure becomes a pivotal component of the income-based method.
Alternatively, this value can be expressed as a percentage by dividing it by the total revenue. Brands boasting over 80% in this metric demonstrate exceptional strength.
In conclusion brand value, is captured as an intangible asset and at the same time offset as retained income on the balance sheet. Depending on your tax jurisdiction there may be some tax implications both positive and negative, so best to discuss this with your accountant.

Names of them do not matter as they’re registered in Oklahoma, and the name can easily be changed online for a $50 fee to Secretary of State. So change the name to whatever you want. Have equally aged Facebook pages for a 2 year and the 6.5yr. How is not charging interest on the loan account seen as a dividend? A dividend is from after tax profits. Reducing your shareholder loan is not an income or dividend, just reducing your loan by taking back your after tax money

    • @johan_jcbs
      @johan_jcbs 26 днів тому

      The loan is from the company to you, the natural person. Because the company does not charge interest on that loan(to you- the shareholder) it is then a deemed dividend. Also it isn’t actual dividend it is just a dividend for tax purposes, so you will pay tax at the dividends’ tax rate on the interest that would have been charged

    There's no requirement to charge interest on credit loan accounts. It should not be confused with debit loan accounts, or loan structures subject to sec 7C where a trust is involved. Sec 7C only applies to individuals' loans receivable from 'trust' or 'company held by trust'.

    What about a loan from the company to me. No intention of repaying the/my company ever. Surely the interest charged is way less than the tax rate and then I wouldn't have to pay the interest anyways as it get's added onto the loan. Like the billionaires do it in USA with the banks?

    • @swiftreg
      @swiftreg 27 днів тому

      Hi Andrew, your question is complex. Loaning money from your own company ends up being a nil sum game as you are borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. Everyone would be doing if it were viable. Regarding the debt, you can following Robert Kiyosaki example as long as the debt is covered by an income generating asset (such as rental) and you remain in positive cashflow. This is very difficult to achieve in South Africa especially with such high interest rates. So if you borrow money to by a sports car, this would be a very bad idea as the car is not an income generating asset.

    Amazing video!!!! If you start a company and have the trust as a shareholder, does it have to be a certain type of trust and are you then as a person, separate from said company and trust, dont you have to sign surety upon starting the company or does the trust sign. Im a little confused with the trust shareholding of the company aspect....😢 would love clarification as i want to go that route! You just got a new subscriber!

      Hi there, Thank you for the compliment. I will deal with surtey separately. The type of Trust depends on the wording in the Trust Deed. For example if you are the sole Trustee and sole beneficiary, then institutions will NOT view the Trust as independent as it will be seen as a sham or a see-through Trust. So best you get some advice on the Trust side. The banks are aware of all of the structures and therefore get the "warm body" behind the structure to sign surety in their personal capacity. I hope this answers your questions.
